LAYOUT TOURS
Home layout tours are always one of the most popular
activities of the NMRA. Here in Southern California, NMRA
member Bob Chaparro organizes tours by geographical area.
Directions and schedules are provided on the website and
email list he maintains at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Model_Railroads_Of_Southern_California
The layout
tours are announced on that email list. The schedules and
directions are then downloadable files from that website,
and may be printed out on a computer printer.
Due to our large geographical area and great number of
layouts, Bob's method has worked well. The geographical
area covered includes our L.A. Division plus neighboring
divisions including the Daylight Division of the PCR, the
Cajon Division, and the San Diego Division. During the NMRA
2008 National Convention held here in Anaheim, Bob
organized over 100 local layouts to be on tours.
LAYOUT DESIGN SIG
MEETS
The Layout Design Special Interest Group, in conjunction
with the NMRA, tries to schedule a local meet each year in
Southern California. They have a website at:
http://www.ldsig.org
The LDSIG also has an email list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ldsig
The SIGs were formed under the auspices of the NMRA but are
independent with their own membership dues.
OPERATIONS SIG
ACTIVITIES
The Operations Special Interest Group has many local
members who attend operating sessions on home and club
layouts. These sessions are by invitation only and simulate
prototype railroad operations using a model railroad
layout, and are very enjoyable to the participants. To get
in on this activity, check out the OpSIG website at:
http://www.opsig.org
The OpSIG also has an email list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ry-ops-industrialSIG
RAILROAD PROTOTYPE
MODELERS MEETS
The Railroad Prototype Modelers have meets every year here
in Southern California. It is all about building accurate
scale models. Check the local schedules and bulletin
boards. Website: http://www.westernprototypemodelers.org
